The first of independent filmmaker Todd Sheets' DIY horror films, shot in Kansas City, MO, deals with Tommy (Dave Byerly), a local gangleader who attempts to raise some of his fellow hoodlums from their graves. Tommy gets his voodoo rituals from a dimestore paperback and sets about his task, although many viewers will surely notice that the zombies' initial appearance occurs before the ritual is even performed. Needless to say, the ceremony is far more successful than Tommy ever dreamed, and soon an army of rather unconvincing ghouls is shambling about town dismembering the local populace, eviscerating the innocent, and even making a light snack out of a baby in its stroller. Tommy and rival Dave (Erin Kehr, who co-wrote the script) bicker incessantly while attempting to stop the zombies' bloody quest for human flesh. Indulgent splatter devotees may find some moments of carnage amusing, but more demanding viewers are likely to be put off by the incoherent plot line, horrible sound, and backyard-quality videography. Stanna Bippus and Beth Bilanti co-star. Sheets returned with Zombie Bloodbath two years later.
