Russia was not quite an ally and not yet an enemy of the U.S. when Hello Moscow premiered in New York in June of 1946. Told in play-within-a-play fashion, the film depicts a group of cherubic Russian youngsters putting on a musical show celebrating Soviet progress in the past three decades. Some humor is injected into the proceedings by an irascible school director (Ivan Lyubeznov) who attempts to sabotage the show by hiding the school's piano. The kids' show is temporarily saved by a friendly accordion player (Sergei Filippov) who, unfortunately, has stolen his instrument from the villain of the piece. All turns out happily as one of the students delivers a curtain speech about the importance of Russian solidarity.
