Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Distributed by Republic, the 64-minute documentary Zanzabuku was produced independently by cinematographer Lewis Cotlow. The film recounts an eight-month African safari embarked upon by Cotlow and his four-man crew. The trek takes the men through Tankanyika, Uganda, Kenya, and what was then known as the Belgian Congo. Making excellent use of telephoto lenses, the film garners gasps with its up-close-and-personal scenes of charging rhinos, hippos and elephants. Children should enjoy the scenes involving a frisky baby lion, even though the photography in this sequence is rather murky.
