Together with The Day of the Great Adventure, The Young Forest was one of director Josef Lejtes' most successful 1930s efforts -- which meant it was also among the most popular Polish films produced in that decade. The ongoing drive to reestablish Poland's ethnic independence from Russia is seen through the eyes of a schoolboy named Stefan Kiernicki (Adam Brodsisz). Stefan's nationalistic pride is at odds with the attitudes held by his father (Stefan Jaracz), an old-line Russian militarist. What begins as rhetoric, culminates in direct action, with spectacular (and sometimes unhappy) results. Though there isn't much time in The Young Forest for a romantic subplot, leading lady Marja Bogda is given ample opportunity to shine.
