Synopsis by Heather M. Fierst

The second installment of Yoga Journal's Yoga Practice series focuses on yoga poses and exercises which lengthen and condition the muscles of the body to increase range of motion and flexibility. The video consists of two 30 minute routines: back stretches and front stretches. As this series was designed to be a continual yoga learning process, the poses and stretches in these workouts are more advanced and meant to be implemented gradually over time. Instructor Patricia Walden demonstrates the stretches carefully and stresses that the student should set goals and practice often. The workouts can be done individually or as an hour long exercise. The best results are achieved when these exercises are combined with other yoga workouts from the series. Yoga blocks are used in the workouts, but chairs, rolled blankets or phone books make good substitutions.
