Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Attempting to escape Poverty Row, Eileen Sedgwick, one of the screen's few true cowgirls, changed her name to Greta Yoltz. The ploy didn't work and Yoltz soon found herself mired in yet another inexpensive melodrama, Yellow Contraband. She played Mazie, the policewoman girlfriend of Internal Revenue agent Leo McMahon (Leo Maloney). McMahon bears a strong resemblance to notorious Chicago gangster Blackie Harris (also Maloney) and when he learns that a shipment of heroin is to be transported across the border from Canada, the lawman disguises himself as Blackie and intercepts the contraband. Blackie outsmarts his imposter, however, and brings the heroin to Chicago. With the help of Mazie, who is impersonating a gun moll, McMahon makes his way into the gangsters' lair, catching the gang red-handed with the drugs. A busy silent era producer/director/star, Maloney would produce and direct Overland Bound (1929), the first independently made sound Western. Unfortunately, the hard-drinking entrepreneur died of a heart attack before he had found a distributor for his "masterpiece," which was eventually released posthumously.
