This series from the History Channel explores some of the most dangerous and deadly natural disasters of all time, including this episode on the infamous Mount Vesuvius volcano. In 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the famed city of Pompeii and also Herculaneum. Even though this tragedy happened 2,000 years ago, the volcano of Mount Vesuvius in Italy remains active today. In 1631, it erupted and killed over 18,000 people. There was a lesser eruption during World War II. Today, scientists study the volcano and claim it has the potential to erupt again, possibly not so far in the future. Other scientists believe that its activity has calmed down and that Mount Vesuvius is no longer an active volcano. Whether it is able to ever blow again, no one knows for sure. Wrath of God takes a close took inside Mount Vesuvius and talks to experts who lend their opinions on this famous volcano.
