Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

The Allies waged a life and death struggle with Germany on several fronts during the course of World War II. This program is part of a series that examines events on the Eastern Front of the war. For a long time, it seemed that Germany could not be stopped. But Hitler made many mistakes that probably cost him the war. The tide began to turn and the Allies made their inexorable push into Berlin and the unconditional surrender of Germany. This program chronicles the early events in that struggle, culminating in the Battle of the Bulge. Archival film clips, photographs, personal accounts, and commentary by historians tell the story.
