Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Find out why keeping the beat isn't the only function of the drums by taking a trip to Burkina Faso to explore the percussive instrument's sacred roots. An instrument with as many forms as it has functions, the drum has taken the place of the voice for the people of Burkina Faso to pass historical tales on to future generations, spread the latest news, and, of course, provide the rhythm for countless dance ceremonies. Now, as a younger generation attempts to demystify the sacred instrument, the ancient functions of the drums are re-appropriated to suit more commercial needs.
