Synopsis by Sarah Ing
Lack of technology didn't stop curious eyes from seeking answers long ago. History's first astronomers are profiled in TLC's Wonders of the Universe: Shadows and Signs. Stonehenge was one of the first sky-gazing creations built to explain the workings of the universe. The Carnac region of Britain also boasts stone sights that are over 5,000 years old. The Mayan and Babylonian people constructed elaborate observatories dedicated to the stars. Historians believe these burgeoning scientists were trying to understand the motion and phases of the planets. Computer imaging re-creates these ancient places while modern-day astronomers present their own ideas about the cosmos.
