Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man falls victim to a miscarriage of justice before he can fully comprehend what's happening to him in this drama from Hungary, inspired by a true story. Denes Suha (Gabor Nagypal) is a local eccentric who lives in a world of his own and is not thought to be especially bright. Denes does odd jobs for an elderly man, and when he's found murdered, Denes becomes the prime suspect. Denes is at once unable and unwilling to stand up for himself when he's charged with the killing, and his behavior is regarded as a tacit admission of guilt by prosecutors. Without a competent lawyer to help him, Denes becomes grist for the mill of the judicial system, and is made a target for abuse in prison. Nincs Kegyelem (PD Emlekere) (aka Without Mercy (In Memory of PD) was directed by Elemer Ragalyi, who received the prize for Best Director when the film was screened in competition at the 2008 Hungarian Film Week Festival.
