Synopsis by Mark Deming

Willie Nelson is one of the best and most individual songwriters and vocalists in country music, and Leon Russell is a musician and arranger who has been a first-call session man and producer even longer than he's been a respected bandleader. When Russell briefly joined Nelson's band in 1979 to fill in for Willie's pianist (and sister) Bobbie Nelson, the two struck up a fast friendship, and they ended up recording a hit album together, a set of classic country tunes called One for the Road. Willie Nelson & Leon Russell: One for the Road is a concert video recorded in 1979 while Nelson and Russell were on the road promoting their album. Selections include "Heartbreak Hotel," "Trouble in Mind," "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "One for the Road," and many more.
