Oliver Hardy's first two-reel comedy for Hal Roach was the last hair-brained entry of the Spat family series. The series consisted of the adventures of two brothers-in-law who go into business together. Tewksbury Spat (Frank Butler) and his brother-in-law, Ambrose (Sidney D'Albrook), make a bet regarding a pretty model (Katherine Grant). As part of the bet, Tewksbury convinces her to come onto him. Unfortunately, Mrs. Spat (Laura Roessing) and the model's brother (Hardy) show up in the midst of this amorous display and get the wrong idea. The model -- a scheming dame in spite of her innocent appearance -- sues Tewksbury for alienation of affections, and claims he chased after her all over the country. When Tewksbury takes a lie detector test, the machine blows up. The situation looks bad for him, and it gets even worse when the lawyer puts bees in his pants. Hardy's bit part in this nonsensical picture was not the most auspicious debut ever made at the Roach studios, but his association with the studio would make history a couple of years later when he would team up with Stan Laurel.
