Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
This German documentary looks at the many artistic phases of one of France's most flamboyant female sculptors and painters, Niki de Saint Phalle. Her work first came to light in the 1960s when she began shooting paint pellets at white canvas. She and her husband, Swiss kinetic sculptor Jean Tinguely also spent many years working together. Other phases presented include her "Nana" phase of kindly mother figures, and her controversial "Devouring mother phase." Also presented are clips from some of her experimental films as well as looks at her current work.
