Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The ribald British late-night sketch comedy series Who Dares, Wins was the brainchild of Andy Hamilton (of Drop the Dead Donkey fame) and Denise O'Donoghue. First telecast on November 1, 1983 as a pilot episode titled Who Dares Wins a Week in Benidom, the series trafficked heavily in profanity, nudity, and comic blasphemy. Its best-known recurring sketch involved a pair of zoo pandas who were expected to "mate" in full view of human spectators. Opening each episode with a montage of such appealing images as a vomiting tramp and a rotting curry dinner, Who Dares, Wins was seen from May 12, 1984 until late 1988, weighing in with 22 45-minute episodes and nine hour-long installments.
