Synopsis by Hal Erickson

While You Were Out was The Learning Channel's new-and-improved version of the cable service's long-running Trading Spaces. This time around, a team of talented designers and carpenters "invaded" the domicile of an unsuspecting homeowner, providing a surprise makeover in said owner's absence. The husband, wife, or lover of the surprised party was obliged to trick his/her partner into vacating the premises for two days while the remodelers moved in. As the makeover transpired, the owner's partner was questioned about what the absentee might be doing while he/she was away. If the answers were correct, a passel of valuable prizes were added to the makeover; if incorrect, the prizes became the booby variety. Among the series' co-conspirators were host Anna Bocci, designers Chayse Dacoda, Lauren Lake, and Stephen Saint-Onge, and carpenters Andrew Dan-Jumbo, Troy Dunn, Jennifer Ann Halpern, Jaqui Jameson, and Leslie Segrete. While You Were Out was seen on Saturdays at noon, beginning July 6, 2002.
