Synopsis by Janiss Garza

John Burt (Alfred Whitman) and Jessie Garden (Mary Anderson) live in a small country village. Their romance is interrupted when a rich clubman comes to town and falls for Jessie. He tries to force himself on her, and when Burt comes to her defense, the clubman is accidentally shot. He believes he has killed the man and runs away to the West where he unearths a lost mine and becomes rich. A friend of his locates the clubman in the East -- it turns out he isn't dead after all. So John goes to New York and ruins him in the stock market and afterwards he and Jessie are reunited. Hundreds of silent films made in the 1910s had the same plot, but in this case, it was adapted from a novel, John Burt, by Frederick Upham Adams.
