In this well-made but routine drama, stenographer Cara Deene (Corinne Griffith) adores her boss, Anthony Blake (Percy Marmont). Blake believes that his wife doesn't love him, so to make a divorce possible, he asks Cara to pretend to be his lover so she can act as corespondent. Cara agrees and she accompanies him to his old home. Mrs. Blake (Louise Prussing) and Blake's friend, Kent Jerrold (George Howard), follow. Mrs. Blake accuses Cara of acting for money, which upsets her. Blake begins to realize that he really is falling in love with his stenographer, but his wife asks for a reconciliation. Cara, believing that the Blakes will get back together, leaves. Months pass and she can't find a job because she can't use her former boss as a reference. She tries to get a reference out of Wallace Trant, Blake's chief clerk (Leslie Roycroft), but he will only give it to her if she gives herself to him. She refuses and turns to Jerrold, who has become a friend. He makes a pass at her too, and she pushes him away. Then he reveals that he was only testing her -- Blake has gotten a divorce and he has been looking for her for weeks. Cara and Blake are reunited.
