Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although the better part of this drama is concerned with other matters, it does bring up the controversial issue of assisted suicide -- something that was debated even in 1920. When Le Roi Andrews (Edwin Booth Tilton) swindles a group of stockholders, Hugh Chilson (George McDaniel) is implicated in his wrongdoing. Chilson's wife, Claudia (Madlaine Traverse), along with his lawyer, suggest that he leave for South America. Chilson boards the ship but is arrested at the first stop. Before he can be taken away, however, he jumps overboard and is presumed dead. He has actually been picked up by a small boat and goes on to make a fortune in South American nitrate deposits. Claudia, meanwhile, believes she is a widow and marries Curtis Brainerd (Frank Elliott). Brainerd winds up a cripple and Claudia, seeing his agony, leaves a gun around in case he wants to use it to put himself out of his misery. He does, just as Chilson returns to America. Claudia is arrested for Brainerd's death, but Brainerd's brother (Charles K. French) is urged not to press charges. Claudia and Chilson find it wise to leave the U.S. and go to South America for a new start.
