Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The Bison 101 division of Universal Pictures was responsible for the three-reel Western What the River Foretold. Having struck it rich, two prospectors return to town, where one of them is to be married while the other will serve as best man. But on the eve of the wedding, the best man turns out to be the worst of the two, and elopes with the bride-to-be. Though heartbroken, the jilted bridegroom shrugs philosophically and returns to gold-mining. Several years later, the wife dies, and her husband becomes a high-rolling gambler. At first, the miner contemplates exacting revenge against the man who stole his sweetheart, but changes his mind, even going so far as to save the gambler from being lynched for cheating at cards. And why does he do this? Seems that the miner is convinced that the woman is still alive, and he's not about to ruin her life by killing her husband. How long will it be before the gambler's luck runs out, and the miner discovers the truth?
