Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur

What Killed the Mega Beasts? originally aired as a two-hour special on the Discovery channel. Right before the Ice Age, giant mammals roamed the earth after the dinosaurs went extinct. Some of these early creatures include wooly mammoths, giant beavers, and marsupial lions. Scientists have differing theories about what caused their extinction, from human hunters to climate changes. Representing an alternate viewpoint, Professor Ross MacPhee believes a disease finally wiped out the giant beasts. This program used computer graphics to re-create these creatures and their habitat, in order to speculate what their final moments were like. Traveling all over the globe, leading scientists visit the places where the ancient creatures lived. Dr. Luis Borerro goes to the sloth caves of Patagonia, Professor Richard Holdaway sees a Giant Moa grave in New Zealand, and Dr. David Burney investigates the gorilla-sized lemur in Madagascar.
