William Patterson White's 1920 novel Lynch Lawyers became a vehicle for Western newcomer Charles (later Buck) Jones three years later. Jones played "Red" Kane, a cowboy befriending ostracized newcomers Ben Lorimer (J.P. Lockney) and daughter "Dot" (Eileen Percy). Lorimer is wanted for a crime he didn't commit, and "Red" has his hands full keeping the old man safe from the sheriff and his posse. Believing he has killed a man (Jack Curtis) in a fight over Dot, Red flees into the mountains. In one of those typical B-Western coincidences, the hero runs right into the very criminals who framed old Ben Lorimer. Hired by Fox to keep the studio's top Western star Tom Mix in line, Buck Jones proved a fine actor in his own right and soon enjoyed a following almost as large as Mix's. One of the best leading ladies around at the time, Percy had supported Douglas Fairbanks in four films in 1917, including The Man from Painted Post.
