Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The two-and-a-half hour commemorative film Vintage World Series: Oakland A's presents the most thrilling highlights from four World Series featuring the Athletics: the 1972 Oakland Athletics v. Cincinnati Reds, the 1973 Oakland Athletics v. New York Mets, the 1974 Oakland Athletics v. LA Dodgers, and the 1989 Oakland Athletics v. San Francisco Giants. Highlights include: Catfish Hunter driving the Reds to loss with one-run cliffhangers in six out of seven games in the 1972 series (all of which the A's won); Willie Mays's final hit in the 1973 series (in which the As won all seven games); Rollie Fingers's performance in the '74 series (which led to his being named Most Valuable Player) and Oakland's four-game sweep in the '89 series, which had been delayed by ten days due to a catastrophic San Francisco earthquake. This volume also includes the official recap and highlight films from all four series.
