Synopsis by Nathan Southern

As directed by Viji, this Bollywood comedy-drama embodies a remake of a little-seen Malayalam-language film, Udhayananu Tharam. Prakash Raj and Prithviraj co-star as two buddies, Kannaiya and Saravanan respectively, each of whom hopes to make it in a different sphere of the film industry: Saravanan as a director, Kannaiya as an actor. Kannaiya has the cards stacked against him, as a middle-aged, overweight clod who has wandered around the backlots for years, obnoxiously trying to claw his way to the top. Eventually, out of sheer desperation, Kannaiya betrays Saravanan by stealing the script that the poor fellow has prepared, and uses it as a vehicle to establish himself as a much-sought-after star. The ploy works; Kannaiya soon reinvents himself as Dilipkanth, a white-hot celebrity who commands massive salaries. Meanwhile, Saravanan's career hits the skids and he spirals downward, despite a marriage to female screen heartthrob Mythily (Gopika). Luckily, at the last minute a producer (Sarath Babu) crops up and gives Saravanan a rather inconvenient ultimatum: he can make the film that will jump-start his career, but only if he casts Kannaiya as the male lead. Saravanan accepts, prompting a fierce and fiery battle-of-wills between the two men on set.
