The Jack London yarn Valley of the Moon was given a robust screen treatment in this 6-reel Bosworth production. Future director Jack Conway stars as Billy Roberts, a promising young boxer. Upon falling in love with Saxon (Myrtle Stedman), an attractive laundress, Billy promises to quit the boxing game for good and all. He gets a job as a truck driver, and things move along smoothly until a sudden wage reduction forces the teamsters to go on strike. Forced out of his livelihood by strikebreakers and scabs, Billy does his best to eke out a meager existence for himself and his wife. Ultimately running out of money, he is forced to return to the boxing ring. Woefully out of shape, Billy is beaten time and again, and before long he has taken to drowning his sorrows in liquor. At the point where things could not get much worse, his faithful wife intervenes, suggesting that she and Billy move to the country for a fresh start in life. The remainder of the story details the couple's herculean efforts to raise enough money to purchase a small farm called The Valley of the Moon. It takes some doing, but a happy ending is finally arrived at, much to the relief of both the onscreen characters and the audience.
