Synopsis by Sally Barber
Witch? Shaman? Artist? Vali: The Witch of Positano is a personal portrait of Vali Myers, an expatriate Australian artist. Dressed like a psychedelic gypsy, she weaves her own brand of mystical spells. "Vali's dogs, Vali's trees, Vali's donkey, the birds, the flowers, the caves, the spiders of Vali -- in the cinema I love, as in dreams, and in Vali, I have the feeling, most mysterious, of seeing for the first time something I knew already before -- since ever," says Bernardo Bertolucci. The film takes viewers to Vali's home territory in the forest along the Amalfi coast of Italy where she practices strange spiritual rituals and maintains her uncommon personal and artistic identity.
