The story is one of those "persevering through the years" affairs so beloved of such Hollywood film personalities as Bette Davis and Barbara Stanwyck. Its box-office success turned out to be regional; the film fared poorly in the U.S., where tearjerkers were a dime a dozen. For the record, the title translates as Only for You.
