Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Listed as an Australian TV production, Man of Letters was largely produced through the auspices of Columbia University. The project consists of four hour-long installments, each designed to enhance the audience's appreciation of great literature. Four separate "men of letters" are scrutinized and analyzed. The subjects include W. Somerset Maugham, D. H. Lawrence, George Orwell and Graham Greene. One wonders how these four literary giants would have reacted to being so magnanimously linked together.
