Synopsis by Cara Saposnik

Red Grooms is both the subject and the host of this energetic documentary. A unique and vibrant artist, Red Grooms' work and aesthetic development are traced as the artist takes us on a guided tour of his "picto-sculptoramas." These pieces are a blend of painting and sculpture which are three-dimensional and may be walked into. Grooms' art environments are juxtaposed in this film with actual street scenes of New York, which provides a further playful outlook on the city and on the work of the artist. Additionally, Grooms travels back to his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee to reveal further inspirational sources for his perspective and imagery. Red Grooms: Sunflower in a Hothouse is a colorful look at an innovative artist.
