Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

Sasho (Alexander Dyakov) is a sculptor, a man whose entire life has been devoted to his art. He and his German-born wife have settled down in a fishing town on the coast of the Black Sea. They live in a run-down shack with concrete and metal scraps piled high in the yard. These are the materials from which he has been fashioning his final masterpiece. The local fishermen and townsfolk have adopted the couple almost as mascots and keep them going with small contributions. One day, a group of people come from the big town bearing the offer of a governmental commission for this last work. With the cash from the sale, he could pay off his debts, and he reluctantly accepts the commission even though he is not satisfied with his sculpture. He spends the night drinking with the guests and their families, growing ever-more depressed.
