Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
This documentary details the little known, yet vital role of horses and mules in the American Civil War. Specially trained for military service and field use, horses were utilized in the infantry, artillery, and quartermaster posts. Though more than 1,500,000 horses were lost due to malnutrition, disease, and battle wounds, the steeds earned a permanent place in the hearts and minds of the soldiers who witnessed their sacrifices firsthand.
