Synopsis by Alice Day
The origins of Australia's diverse animal populations are examined in Unique Continent - Australian Environmental Studies: Where Did All the Animals Come From? Many species of mammals, birds, and reptiles live in the land down under, with some found nowhere else. As Australia's environment changed over the centuries, moving from rainforest to dryer, harsher conditions, animals were forced to adapt or die out. This program also explores the impact of invading species, many without natural predators, resulting in governmental intervention to reduce their large numbers.
