Synopsis by Alice Day
Throughout Australia's history, plant and animal life from other countries have been introduced many times to the detriment of its ecology. Whenever a non-native species is brought into an existing ecosystem, the impact can be devastating. In Unique Continent - Australian Environmental Studies: The Invaders, animals of European origin overgraze native grasses and other plants. A landowner imported rabbits, which, having no natural predator in Australia, proceeded to destroy pastureland across the continent. The cane toad is another invader that has caused serious environmental harm.
