In this domestic drama, adapted from Sir Arthur Wing Pinero's novel, The Profligate, Anna Lehr plays librarian Janet Preece, who is wronged by wealthy Dunstan Renshaw (H. E. Herbert). But instead of marrying her, he turns around and weds Leslie Brownell (May McAvoy), a girl of his own class. The couple honeymoon in Italy and Janet, meanwhile, takes a job as secretary to Mrs. Stonehay (Elizabeth Garrison), who also takes her to Italy. The Stonehays meet up with Leslie while her husband is in Rome and Janet is badly hurt in an accident. She stays at Leslie's and Leslie's brother Wilfred (Arthur Rankin) falls in love with her. But because of her past Janet refuses to marry him. It comes out that Renshaw was the man who ruined her and Leslie leaves him. Before she dies, however, Janet brings the couple back together.
