Synopsis by Rebecca Flint Marx

A documentary from Zuzana Justman, who wrote and executive-produced Terezin Diary (1989), Czech Women: Now We Are Free (1993), and the Emmy-winning Voices of the Children (1998), A Trial in Prague examines the controversial 1952 trial of 14 leading Czechoslovakian Communists. Convicted on trumped-up charges of espionage and treason, many of the defendants -- most of them Jewish -- were executed by hanging. The documentary charts the initial lure of the Communist ideology, Joseph Stalin's resentment towards Tito, and the rising anti-Semitism that led to the trial. Interviews are combined with archival footage.
