Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Spain is the focal point of this 51st episode of Rick Steves' popular travel series. The first stop is Barcelona, the port capitol of the district of Catalunya, where the original flags of region have flown proudly since the death of Spanish dictator Franco. After a few glimpses of the local citizens, the architecture, and the art (notably at the Picasso museum), the next stop is Madrid and El Escorial, "time capsule of Spain's golden age," and the site of the Valley of the Fallen, a mute testimony to the martyrs of the Spanish Civil War. The tour ends in Segovia, a gorgeous blend of ancient Roman and Gothic architecture.
