Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Leaving the French coast behind, Rick Steves arrives in Belgium, there to navigate the canals and cobbled streets of Brugges, the country's "Medieval Time Capsule." After a mercifully brief recap of the Bubonic Plague, Rick embarks on more pleasurable pursuits, among them a visit to the bilingual city of Brussels. Among the sights herein are the only Michelangelo statue to be found in Northern Europe, a Beguinage, a lace school, and the fabled (or notorious) "Mannequin Pis" fountain -- or, as the host discreetly describes it, "the little squirt." This 20th episode of Travels in Europe With Rick Steves ends with a journey to Luxembourg, complemented by discussion of the country's significance in history, and its importance in the new, united Europe.
