Synopsis by Mark Deming
Some of the finest pickers on the West Coast country music scene used to gather every Saturday night for the weekly live broadcast of Town Hall Party, a local television show airing in Los Angeles which featured local talent as well as major touring attractions. Town Hall Party: November 6, 1954 features archival kinescopes of material from that evening's program. Included are performances from legendary guitarists Joe Maphis, Merle Travis, and Larry Collins, as well as guest spots from Tex Ritter, Tommy Duncan, Johnny Bond, and many more. Master of ceremonies Jay Stewart would go on to greater fame as the announcer on the game show Let's Make a Deal.
