Too Fat to Fight (1918)

Synopsis by Janiss Garza
The title of this silent, based on a Rex Beach story, says it all. The service doesn't want Norman Dairymple (Frank McIntyre) because he's overweight. All his friends are fighting in the Great War, and he wants desperately to be part of the action, so he joins the Y.M.C.A. to shape up. He finally gets his chance to join the army, and he goes overseas and is wounded while helping a fellow soldier. For Norman, becoming a hero thusly is a happy ending. Unfortunately, the Great War had just ended when this propaganda-type film came out, and people were far more interested in their returning men than they were in being fired up with the fighting spirit.
