Synopsis by Mark Deming

Chicago-based independent filmmaker Tom Palazzolo offers his witty, intelligent, and provocative perspective on the changing political and social tides of the late '60s in these four short films created between 1966 and 1970. In The Bride Stripped Bare, Palazzolo contrasts newsreel footage of the unveiling of a massive sculpture by Pablo Picasso with images of women, both posed and caught candidly. Campaign offers a disturbing look at the violence that erupted in the wake of the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention. Venus Adonis plays out a satiric tale of perfect beauty against the backdrop of the Windy City's skyline. And Love It, Leave It uses images of a nudist colony in the South as a visual metaphor for the economic and political differences that were turning America into a divided nation.
