Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The Argentine drama Times to Come (Lo Que Vendra) is set a few years in the future. Returning to Buenos Aires after a long absence, Hugo Soto is surprised to discover that people are deserting the city by the thousands. He discovers that the town has become an unmanageable high-tech jungle, resembling the post-apocalyptic communities one finds in Japanese comic books. The government seems to have completely given up on the sex-and-violence-and-graffiti-ridden metropolis, while an omnipresent PA system expounds honeyed words of optimism to the gloomy populace. Injured in a political demonstration, Soto is witness to eerie, surrealistic visions as he lies in his hospital room. In his delirium, he is visited by a beautiful woman, who informs him that it is his task to "preserve the future." How he goes about this dictates the conclusion of the hallucinatory mixture of political allegory and lush romanticism.
