Synopsis by Steve Blackburn
The Napa Valley Farmhouse Renovation by the This Old House PBS series involves updating and expanding the kitchen of a 1906 Victorian hip-roofed farmhouse to take advantage of the spectacular views of the Wine Country. A visit to the Clos Pegase winery opens This Old House: Napa Valley, Pt. 7. Noted architect Michael Graves designed the facility, though rain hampers progress at the renovation site. While master carpenter Norm Abram inspects the installation of the solid-surface countertop, Richard Trethewey points out the important features of the new hot-water system: earthquake strapping, a circulating pump on a timer, and the magnesium rod that prevents corrosion of the tank. Water softener is added. Al Curtice installs a three-way dimmer allowing control from two locations. The episode concludes with a tour of a winery property up for sale in St. Helena.
