Celebrities and ordinary people were surprised to find their lives being reviewed in this popular series that piled on the sentiment. Some subjects, like Lowell Thomas, weren't particularly happy about the prospect (he called it 'a sinister conspiracy'). The Emmy winner, syndicated in 1971 and again in 1983, rode teary---some felt uncomfortably maudlin---emotions in episodes featuring such stars as Laurel and Hardy, Boris Karloff and Lou Costello.
