This video is part 13 in the 26-volume World at War series that chronicles the history of World War II. The award-winning series, narrated by Laurence Olivier, first aired on television in 1974. This episode derives its name from a statement made by Winston Churchill that Italy was the "soft underbelly of the crocodile," easy to cut through to reach Germany. The gut of Italy proved to be tougher than originally thought. Archival film footage shows some of the fighting in Italy.
