Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Between 1939-45, one of the most vital components of World War II involved the battle between the Axis Powers and the Allied Powers for full control of the North Atlantic trade routes. In literal terms, the struggle materialized as a battle between Allied convoys and German U-boats, and cost an estimated sixty thousand English lives (in addition to destroying nearly 4000 merchant ships and 800 submarines). As narrated by Michael Leighton, the program draws from period photographs, archival footage, and revealing interviews with veterans.
