The titular tangle begins when Naomi Childers, the girlfriend of dashing American Cavalry lieutenant Darwin Karr, comes across a picture of another woman in Karr's wallet. Not knowing that the picture is of Karr's sister, Childers flies into a rage, breaks off the engagement, and marries Karr's senior officer. When she learns of her mistake, she tries to apologize to Karr, succeeding only in enraging her husband. The plot is resolved by the timely eruption of the Spanish-American War, wherein Childers' husband is fatally injured. With his dying breath, the husband orders Karr to marry Childers, and no officer can defy a direct order! Produced by Broadway Star Feature Films, The Tangle was released by Vitagraph.
