Synopsis by Mark Deming
Steve Winwood had established himself as one of the most powerful voices on the British blues scene when the Spencer Davis Group recorded an appearance for German television that captured him shortly before his departure from the group to form Traffic. The Spencer Davis Group: Gimmie Some Lovin' -- Live features the band's 1966 television concert, as well as a 1967 documentary that focuses on guitarist Spencer Davis' efforts to assemble a new lineup following the departure of Winwood (who played organ in addition to singing lead) and his brother Muff Winwood (who played bass). Selections include "I'm a Man," "Georgia on My Mind," "When I Come Home," "Keep on Running" and more.
