Synopsis by Mark Deming

Musician-turned-filmmaker David Markey directed this low-budget look at the Southern California punk rock scene in the early '80s. Shot on Super-8, Slog Movie offers a fan's perspective on the bands and the music that dominated SoCal punk back in the day, and features classic performances from the Circle Jerks, Fear, TSOL, Red Cross (before they became Redd Kross), and Circle One shot on-stage at the Whiskey a Go-Go, the Cuckoo's Nest, Club 88, and other noted venues. Black Flag appeared in the original version of Slog Movie, but guitarist and leader Greg Ginn refused to grant permission for his appearance in the DVD reissue; the rest of the band is shown, but Ginn is obscured while the audio is left blank throughout the number.
