Early in his film career, comedian Oliver Hardy worked for the Edison studios, which also employed Raymond McKee -- the two actors had worked together the year before at Lubin. McKee was Edison's comedy star, and Hardy supports him in this one-reel short. When her son is on his way to a new school, Mrs. Quince writes them a letter urging them not to let him engage in any contests of strength. The student body warily anticipates the arrival of a tough guy, but it turns out that Percy Quince (McKee) is small and unassuming. Tom Haze (Arthur Housman) and the other students proceed to make Percy's life miserable by bullying him mercilessly. When the boys arrange a midnight meeting up at Percy's room, he finally decides to take matters into his own hands. He goes to Professor Arm Strong (Hardy), the boxing instructor, and asks him to come to his room. The bullies arrive at the dark room and are beaten up by the Professor, and Percy finally wins respect from the student body.
