Benefitting from one of the decade's more inventive titles, this otherwise mediocre silent Western featured a pre-Universal Jack Hoxie in the title role, as stage-driver Drew Halliday, who -- after saving a girl, Marybelle (Bee Monson), from the unwelcome advances of gambler Silk Lowry (Joseph W. Girard) -- is elected sheriff. The girl's brother (Wilbur McGaugh), is falsely accused of a murder actually committed by Silk. The latter attempts to frame his saloon-hostess girlfriend, Hela (Marin Sais), who in return shoots him down in cold blood. Hoxie and Sais were married at the time. The Sheriff of Hope Eternal was the second of six Hoxie Westerns produced by Benjamin F. Wilson's Unity Photoplays and distributed by the small-time Arrow Film Corp.
